o ensure good quality and effective waterproofing, follow these steps carefully:
-
Prepare the surface: Make sure the floor is smooth, clean from cement lumps, and properly sloped.
-
Cement fillet: Create a cement fillet (corner) between the floor and wall at least 10 cm high, using a stronger cement mix.
-
Pipe setup: Pipes should stick out from walls between 10 and 30 cm high and be at least 1.5 cm above the floor. Seal pipe ends tightly with cement. It’s best to install pipe sockets or connectors before waterproofing to protect pipes and insulation from future damage by plumbers.
-
Tiles installation: Do not install wall tiles all the way down to the floor. Leave space for waterproofing materials and match tile levels between bathroom and other rooms.
-
Waterproofing height: Set the waterproofing height on walls before starting, about 5 to 10 cm above the finished tile floor, to avoid water leaking behind the insulation.
-
Avoid plaster at bottom: Don’t apply plaster on the bottom of the wall before waterproofing to avoid extra thickness that may block tile fitting.
-
Cementitious waterproofing: Apply a cement-based waterproof layer around pipes, under the last tile, and in the shower area to stop moisture and improve waterproofing.
Tip: You can combine roll membrane waterproofing (waterproof sheets) with the cementitious layer for stronger protection.
